I can definitely say my experience with the Valve Index was the best visual VR experience I have had. The awesome visuals are thanks to the 1440x1600 per-eye resolution with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. To give you a better idea of how great that is, the Oculus Rift S only offers 1280x1440 per-eye resolution with a refresh rate of 80 Hz.
The more VR climbs the popularity ladder in the industry, the better headset developers have done with eliminating the ‘screen-door’ effect that was a major issue on the majority of the first released VR headsets. With the Valve Index you’ll also have a slider and a dial to adjust the lens. This helps you to obtain the best placement for your own comfort and field of view.
When it comes to comfort, the Valve Index passes the test. It’s slightly heavier than a Rift S but I enjoyed the head strap better. Made it easier to distribute the weight around my head. The straps aren’t super cheap either. They feel more like an extra soft t shirt that’s padded than your typical ‘foam’ padding. Something many people consider when they have extended game play sessions. The Index delivers quality audio with positional accuracy thanks to the ‘floating’ headphone feature.
I will say with great confidence that the Valve Index VR device could very well be one of the best headsets released as of yet. The company has clearly paid attention to the past failures of VR headsets and combined them with their own advancements. If you have a HTC Vive device, you’re going to notice a significant improvement in experience with the Index Valve. Much smoother than the Vive Pro as well.
